I hope they go on a big tour soon. I'm dyin to see them live. And the album art is so fucking amazing. Every track on this one is brilliant, so my shouts today definitely go out to Surfer Blood. Local Natives - Gorilla Manor

Label: Frenchkiss
Year: 2009

Sorry friends, I get on these crazy dubstep kicks, and well you know... Maybe. So anyways I'm still here in the middle on a Southern Ontario snowstorm warming up with a couple new bands from the far South. The first is an amazing Indie band that I had the pleasure of meeting and seeing with Edward Sharpe a couple weeks ago in Toronto. They are from California and are as fresh as a Florida orange... Fuck me. Ok, enough of that, the album is produced beautifully, it's crisp clear sounding and it's on repeat in the office. These guys are touring like crazy right now so get out there and support em, eh?

Julian Plenti Is... Skyscraper

Year: 2009
Label: Matador

I keep coming back to this one. It's Paul Banks' (Interpol) first solo album. It's eerie and a little on the dark side and its unmistakably Interpol. I really like it and that is why you find it here. Please leave a comment . I wanna know what other people are into! What do you wanna hear? How's the weather where you are today? Whats your favourite colour? Ha Ha I'm listening to this album right now and it's right raw. So good.

Uninhabitable Mansions - Nature Is A Taker

Year: 2009
Label: Wichita?????

Hello again people! Musics been slow lately till I came across this little gem! I'm so excited for this one it's a keeper for sure! Uninhabitable Mansions is a Brooklyn based art collective that has a music division. This is it. Band members include Robbie Guertin (Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah) and Annie Hart (Au Revoir Simone) to name a few. Its got all the key ingredients for an amazing and beautiful indie classic right from the first drum beat on the first song. The whole album is an "indie rock banger" ha ha and hee hee. Right Raw fuckers.

More to come soon!

Year: 2008
Label: Morr

Ben Cooper is an indie genius. One of his other projects (Radical Face) has been some of my favourite music to listen to this past summer (please check out Radical Face earlier on in this blog). Electric President is a duo with Ben Cooper and Alex Kane. It's just so briliant. To me, if wealth was determined by musical capabilities, then Ben Cooper would be in every episode of lifestyles of the rich and famous. Anyways, this album is perfect and comes highly recommended by myself. So much talent here, you better recognize please!

Sun Kil Moon - Tiny Cities

Year: 2005
Label: Vinyl Films

Do you ever try to match music to the weather? I do, and it usually lends a hightened emotional feeling to whatever your listening to. This album does just that. It's an eerie and emotional and sad approach to 11 Modest Mouse songs that we all hold dear to our hearts. It's quite unique, and the feeling and mood of the album is perfect when accompanied by a chilly golden fall day. Give it a try, and once you realize what songs you are actually hearing, it might just bring a tear to your eye. Don't forget your friends and what they mean to you. Keep it right raw.

The Cave Singers - Welcome Joy

Year: 2009
Label: Matador

Fuck yeah here we go! This a new release from another great Matador band, The Cave Singers! These guys are absolutely amazing, they have been on repeat for me on my long trips up north for work. There's some real talent in this band, and I can't get enough of them. Again, if you like this, let me know and I'll up their 2007 release Invitation Songs which is also an incredibly solid album. Check it bitches!

The Dodos - Time To Die

Year: 2009
Label: Frenchkiss

Sorry for the delay! Ok so there's so much music out there right now it's just so fucking hard to pick the ones that really stand out for me. I have found that I have to listen to a whole bunch of stuff for a while, and certain things will come to the surface. Kind of like a music sieve. So this album and this band definitely stood out, and didn't fall through the crack of music monotony. It's so so good, and if you like it, let me know and i'll up their 2008 release Visiter (which I think is slightly better). Hells yeah...

Year: 2009
Label: Neapolitan Recordings

Hi Everyone. Lots and lots of new great music going on right now. This one however has really been standing out with me lately. So big up the band they call Wave Machines. UK indie with a little je ne sais quoi? for a garnish. Big album with lots of "indie popish bangers". Give it a listen, I think you will be happy you did. More to come soon. Nuff said.

Bombay Bicycle Club - I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose

Year: 2009
Label: Sire?

Love the album art on this one! First album for this British indie band! I was kind of put off of the British indie scene for a while, but then this came out... And they totally redeemed themselves! Big up Dumb and Dumber. So this ones great. Nice and catchy with a bit of an edgier heavier than indie feel. So this is it for today! I'm off to the dark side now. Don't forget to love music and make it mean something to you and stay right raw!

Label: Secretly Canadian

I absolutely love this band. True indie at it's finest! Not a single bad song on the whole deal! So lovin' the track Noises. This is their second album and it's just so great. I have been listening to it tons and tons lately. This is the stuff great mixtapes are made of... I gotta stop posting all this shit so everyone will like my next mixtape! Blitzen Trapper - Black River Killer EP

Year: 2009
Label: Sub Pop

Most of you must be familiar with Blitzen Trapper by now. If not, this is a great one to start with. Every track is so right raw. Get out your straw hat for this one and take your shoes off. Stand in the grass. This EP showcases Black River Killer, and is composed of tracks that you could apparently only buy on CD at his shows. But now it's out. Great Great tunes here. Every songs a Killer... Black River Style. Big up the summer thats finally here in Southern Ontario. Let's get sweatty.

Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeroes - Up From Below

Year: 2009
Label: Rough Trade

Hey Now! So I spent the better part of my holiday with Edward Sharpe in the car. For a while now, I was resisting this band, there was something about it that was pissing me off. (ask Jay about my island). But now that I'm on the hippie old timey rock stuff (if the hipsters ever get onto this I'm out, by the way) it's a brilliant album full of great music! Very nostalgic! This albums gonna be high on my list for a while for sure. Best heard at high volume with a cold beer. Preferrably with flower children dancing around in a field of wheat right in front of you, that will add to the ambiance of the album. Seriously, check em out, you'll love it!

Hello All,
I'm back from a brief vacation that was fun. So some of my friends have asked for some more music so I'm gonna post a bunch of stuff to catch you up with all the great music that I have been liking this past week. I have done lots of driving in the past couple of days, so rest assured that the following posts have been thoroughly scrutinized and are all great albums! So less talk more rock. Oh yeah, and lately I have been jumping on this new sort of old time hippie rock and roll band wagon but I don't fuckin care cause this new music kills it! So enjoy and let me know what you think you no comment jerks! ha ha.

Akira Kiteshi - Live Germany July 2009

WARNING!!!!! - This Mix May Hurt You! Badly.
Straight outta Scotland comes Akira Kiteshi with this absolutely roughneck mix. This shit just totally upped the bass ante for me and I'm sure it will for you too. Even for my pal over at phatty music. I pissed my pants twenty minutes in.... Serious... Goose eggs on the forehead style. Don't fuck around, grab this mix, a giant fuckin speaker and go bang your head! Best shit I ever heard and trust, I've heard lots. If I calm down tomorrow I got some great indie albums to post, but not till tomorrow!

Fruit Bats - The Ruminant Band

Year: 2009
Label: Sub Pop

I haven't had time to read up on these guys, but it's so good who cares about their bio... This is their second full length album and I'm listenin' to it tons. It's really great and really fun and totally right raw, dude. This music is awesome in the car (you will be singin along) or at home after a long day at the office with a cold one in hand. i find it to have a bit of a Connor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band vibe but with a quirky twist that I attribute to the lead singers voice. I like it. I like it a lot, so get it and sit down and enjoy! Bye for now have a good day and until next time!

Neon Indian - Psychic Chasms EP

Year: 2009
Label: Lefse

Whoa... Trippy. Sounds like New York hipsters on acid but I like it. Full of that indie, poppie electro sound that we all love, right? Well I put it up cause this EP has more to it than the norm. It's actually quite interesting and good. I think the full album will be out in October. Enjoy it and remember to remain Right Raw!

Great Lake Swimmer - Lost Channels

Year: 2009
Label: Nettwerk

I'm somehow really enjoying this album. Can't really explain it. It's just pleasant. Some tracks make me feel like a live action role player for listening, but whatever ha ha it's a really skillfully done album with tons of memorable songs. So check this one out, get off the fuckin internet, put it on and go read a book. They will go hand in hand...

Mission Of Burma - The Obliterati

Label: Matador
Year: 2006

Here's a sort of post punk with a twist of Shellac and Fugazi for you. These guys formed in Boston in 1979, back when Burma was still Burma. They were together for a brief period of time, then split and reformed in 2002. Now they are going fucking strong, son. This one is real good, and has a raw edge that comes of course from the band but also because Bob Weston of Shellac mixed it. They have a newer album but your gettin' this one cause it's sick. These guys have influenced the likes of Nirvana, Pixies, R.E.M., and Fugazi over the years, which I think is a pretty impressive track record... Enjoy!

Shellac - Excellent Italian Greyhound

Label: Touch & Go Records
Year: 2007

The next couple of posts are so that Jay doesn't think I'm a puss... So here's some rock and roll in its right rawest form. Steve Albini and his band Shellac have been around for quite some time, and before that he fronted bands in the eighties like Rapeman and Big Black. This guys a fucking genius and Shellac is my favourite band. Represents the term "right raw" to the fullest extent. I had a lot to say about this but I'm gonna shut up and let the music do the talking... or screaming. Enjoy Shellac's latest achievement!

Discovery - LP

Year: 2009
Label: XL Recordings

Good afternoon ladies and gentleman! I don't care what anyone says about this one, it's simply great. Really great. It will grow on you so fast you wont know what hit you. It's electric, synthy, poppy, and super super catchy. Give it a try! So Discovery is a side project from the keyboardist (Rotsam Batmanglij) from Vampire Weekend and Ra Ra Riots lead singer Wes Miles. How could it be bad right? As my friend Pat has indicated you can almost hear them tapping away on their mac books at times but who cares with music this catchy. And where's Vampire Weekends next album? I hope to see it soon! Cursive - Domestica

Year: 2000
Label: Saddle Creek

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and good night. Today for me is Cursive day! They mean a lot to me and I think this album represents the band best. They originally formed in 1995 in Nebraska, and in 2000 released this concept album Domestica. My friend Geoff got me onto them a long time ago (if your out there, big ups to you buddy!). They really are great, and take a distinct and heavier approach to indie rock. Their most recent album Mama, I'm Swollen came out this year and it is also great. So go out and buy it if you like this! I think you will.

P.S. They are playing the Horseshoe in Toronto August 1st so let's go and have some beers!

Year: 2009
Label: Cave City Music

This is a wonderful little EP that I have been listening to lots and lots lately. Can't wait for a full album by this guy. The guy is Andrew English, Texas born and Kentucky raised, and if you ask me, a memorable acoustic indie musician from the South! Love the cover art as well, which was also done by Andrew. New Link For The Mixtape

Thanks to Pat I now have an itunes friendly link for the mixtape! Bye for now!

The Inbreds - Hilario

Label: Pf Records (Kingston Ontario)
Year: 1992

Don't let the age of this album turn you off! It's probably my favourite indie album of all time and these guys are from Kingston Ontario! I was sixteen when I came across this album (their first one) and I have listened to it ever since! It's basically two guys on drums and bass and it will blow your indie socks off. Serious. Every time I listen to the album I'm left feeling happy, sad, and nostalgic all at once. It's just one of those things that lasts through the ages! I have more of them so if anyone like it and want more let me know in the comments! Oh yeah, and these guys supposedly show up on occasion to play music festivals on the East coast! Neato. Right old and right raw.

New Mixtape Link Coming!

Hello and good morning! There will be a new link for my mixtape up this afternoon. Apparently i tunes scrambles it and wrecks the order (which is important with mixtapes!). My friend at phattymusic.wordpress.com brought this to my attention. So look for the proper link this afternoon!

You Could See that Dog Leavin For Three Days.

Please be sure to check out my first mixtape for right raw! I hope it finds everyone well!

Radical Face - Ghost

Label: Morr (German)
Year: 2007

This is an album that I came across recently that has such a unique feel I thought it was worthy of sharing. Radical face is the latest project of Ben Cooper, formerly of the duo Electric President. The album was recorded with simple equipment in a toolshed in Jacksonville Florida, which I think lends to an overall erie feel and sound. The songs are great, unique, and overall super solid. Some of the songs almost have a sort of flamenco beat to them, which makes the album stand out. This guy is great, and I highly recommend it for a cold dreary day like today! Please enjoy responsibly! My buddy over at phattymusic.wordpress.com's gonna enjoy this one during his afternoon nap time...
